Republican Ted Budd won North Carolina’s open Senate seat on Tuesday, defeating Cheri Beasley while extending a losing streak for state Democrats seeking a spot in that chamber, the Associated Press reported. 

In U.S. House races, Democrat Wiley Nickel won North Carolina’s 13th Congressional District when Republican Bo Hines conceded just after 11:30 p.m.

North Carolina Republican state Sen. Chuck Edwards also defeated Democrat Jasmine Beach-Ferrara to win an open U.S. House seat in the western North Carolina district currently represented by GOP Rep. Madison Cawthorn, whom Edwards beat in the primary, the AP reported.

Republican David Rouzer was projected to win reelection to the state's 7th Congressional District, the news organization reported about 11 p.m. Thursday.

Democrat Valerie Foushee was the projected winner for the 4th Congressional District, The AP reported earlier in the evening. It was the first race called in North Carolina on Tuesday night.

The AP also called the 2nd Congressional District for Democrat Deborah Ross.

In North Carolina's 3rd Congressional District, Republican incumbent Greg Murphy was the projected winner.

In Charlotte-area races, Democrat Jeff Jackson defeated Republican businessman Pat Harrigan for the state's newest seat, the AP reports.

Democratic Rep. Alma Adams was the projected winner in the 12th Congressional District, according to The AP. She has been in the House since winning a special election in 2014.

The AP also projected Republican Virginia Foxx to win reelection in North Carolina's 5th Congressional District and Republican Dan Bishop to take the state's 8th Congressional District.

Early voting saw a healthy turnout this year with more than 2 million registered voters in the state casting their ballot during the one-stop early voting period, according to the latest data on the North Carolina State Board of Elections.  

NCSBE officials reported 15 incidents with potential intimidation or interference at polling sites during early in-person voting. Karen Brinson Bell, executive director for the State Board of Elections, addressed voting questions Monday.
