GRAWL leadership says women’s arm wrestling leagues around the country have a tradition of fundraising for causes including the arts, charities and women’s health. GRAWL’s events have raised more than $50,000 for Triad nonprofits over the years.

The league’s GRAWLoween match will benefit a Guilford County nonprofit called Youth Focus and its Act Together emergency shelter.

Diane Chase, an arm wrestler known as “Smother Earth,” said the event is about much more than biceps and glitter.

Nobody's in it for themselves. Of course, everyone wants to win. They hope they win. But that's only a very small portion of it, honestly. It's, you know, the organization wins. Whoever we're raising money for,” Chase explained.

GRAWL members said another thing that makes the league special is how it plays to the strength of its members. In addition to showcasing the strength of their muscles, it also showcases the strength of their communities and connections.

GRAWLoween will take place at Oden Brewing Company in Greensboro on Saturday. The show will begin at 9 p.m., and more event information is available here
