ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Buncombe County voters will be sporting a new "I Voted" sticker after casting their ballots this year.

Polly Crutchfield won the Buncombe County Voting Sticker Contest.

The fifth-grader enjoys art, which is why she entered the sticker contest to come up with this year’s design.

The artwork has several messages behind it.

“I thought they should be holding hands and in different skin colors because I know there have been some difficulties about which skin color, which I think is stupid,” Crutchfield said. “I thought that everybody should work together. Like everybody working together could make the world a better place.”

Crutchfield loves the freedom art gives her.

“I can express myself and you’re free to draw anything that you want,” she said.

The 11-year-old won’t be casting a ballot for at least another seven years, but it’s not stopping her from being part of the process.

“That stuff is exciting! I want to be involved!” she said. “Whenever you make a decision that’s important, I mostly feel good about it.”
