  • As crews at Quail Hollow get ready, other golf clubs take Spectrum News 1 behind the scenes of  what it takes to run a golf course

Organizers say this event has been years in the making, with a lot of work going on behind the scenes to get ready.

While the Presidents Cup is on a much larger scale, a golf superintendent at another local Charlotte golf club gave Spectrum News 1 a small glimpse into what it’s like to get a golf course ready for play.

Over at Providence Country Club, Golf Superintendent Mark Scott says he’s at work before most people are even up.

He starts his day bright and early to manage his crew.

He says the crew begins mowing the fairways and greens early to try to get ahead of players.

“We have to stay in front of all the golfers,” Scott said. “We are a busy club, 150, 200 rounds a day. Our goal every morning is to not get caught by play.”

Over at Quail Hollow, it’s bustling with crews working to get everything set before they welcome fans on Tuesday.

Gates open to ticket holders Tuesday morning, with competition beginning Thursday.
