Each year, more than 30,000 visit and explore the 275-acre farm.
Carrigan Farms is in apple picking season now through late September. Next month, the farm will give customers the chance to pick their own pumpkins and go through the haunted trail — if they dare.
William Carrigan is a recent N.C. State graduate and the fifth-generation farmer continuing his family’s legacy.
“My whole life I grew up here,” said Carrigan. “My dad got a horticulture degree at N.C. State. I just graduated from N.C. State with my horticulture degree, so I’m carrying along part of the family.”
Carrigan says his favorite part about being on the farm is collecting and identifying pest insects that he finds while tending to the crops. He also says he enjoys educating visitors who stop by.
“We love to have the people teach them something about agriculture,” said Carrigan. “Most people have never been on a real farm, so for them to come out and experience it is a totally different thing.”
Carrigan Farms also offers strawberry picking, and sunflowers during other parts of the year.
Beyond agriculture, Carrigan Farms offers open swim during the summer months in its quarry. The farm also takes reservations for weddings, corporate events and retreats.
