The Carolina Cowboys are one of eight teams in the new PBR series and the only one in North Carolina. Head coach and bull riding legend Jerome Davis said the idea of PBR teams isn’t new, but COVID-19 delayed making that a reality until recently.
“I think the timing of this whole PBR teams is good timing. I think the right people have bought into these teams, and I feel like with (NASCAR owner) Richard (Childress) and (NASCAR driver) Austin (Dillon) being involved … here in the Carolinas, man, I just can’t see it not going,” Davis said.
He and his wife, Carolina Cowboys Assistant General Manager Tiffany Davis, bring up bucking bulls at their Archdale ranch. Giving the bulls love, care and attention is her specialty. She said they are professional athletes, and they receive everything from chiropractor visits to pulse therapy.
“They get treated as well as a lot of people’s dogs, if not better. They just don’t sleep on the couch with us,” Tiffany Davis said.
She believes being on a team will help bull riders as they progress through their careers. Both of them love seeing the fan reaction and are hopeful for what this will bring to the sport.
“It was neat to watch how these teams evolved and doing the draft and just … the whole team concept and watching it, how it’s coming together,” Jerome Davis said. “The fans, the fans love it. You know, now instead of a guy going to bull riding and cheering for one guy, he’s cheering for a whole team,”
He hopes to say the Carolina Cowboys are the world champions at the end of the year.
The Carolina Cowboys will take on the Arizona Ridge Riders, the Nashville Stampede and the Missouri Thunder throughout their homestand at the LJVM Coliseum in Winston-Salem from Friday to Sunday. A full schedule of events is available here.
