STANLY COUNTY, N.C. — A Stanly County couple linked to criminal allegations made on social media is facing charges related to a child abduction and sex crime case.
The Stanly County Sheriff's Office charged Marissa Bolton and Alois Bolton, both 34, and are also clearing up "misinformation" circulating on social media surrounding the investigation.
The Boltons were charged following multiple allegations of illegal activity at an address off Harvell Road in Stanfield, where the pair lived. The home was subject to multiple search warrants.
In a May press release, deputies said social media posts about children being picked up in a van, drugged or being held captive are "incorrect," and that the child abductions in the case are not random. The abductions involved having or keeping minors against the parents' consent, according to the release.
The sheriff's office shared the information on Facebook Wednesday.
Marissa Bolton is charged with misdemeanor child abuse, contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, sexual battery, delivery of a schedule II controlled substance, felony conspiracy, child abduction, second-degree forcible sexual offense and sexual servitude - adult victim. Alois Bolton is charged with child abduction and felony conspiracy.
A video circulating of a "Fight Club" is not related to this case or those involved in the case. "This is a completely separate incident," deputies say, "which has also been falsely linked to this investigation."
Anyone with information on a child who may be a victim in this case is asked to call officials at 704-986-3700, as deputies say they're working to identify more victims.
"We ask the public to remember that there are minor children and their families who are victims of these incidents and to respect their privacy in this matter as this is a difficult situation for all," deputies said.
