LEXINGTON, N.C. — A spotlight is being cast on a Davidson County bus driver for her commitment to the role and for going above and beyond.
Rita Winegar began working for the Davidson County Transportation system at the start of the pandemic two years ago.

Winegar was recently recognized, not only for her commitment to the job, but for her commitment to the community.
She often gifts passengers in need with essential items, like food or blankets.
“This is my passion, it’s where my heart is at,” Winegar explained.
Before driving buses for the county, Winegar was a school bus driver for more than two decades.
Winegar said interacting with people is what keeps her coming back to the industry, even during a time when many are reporting bus driver shortages.
She said it feels incredible to have her commitment recognized with this award.
"Great, very great, to be able to display my name out there with these other awards. Yes, very special,” Winegar said.
Bus drivers from Chapel Hill Transit, Greensboro Transportation Authority and Johnston County Area Transportation Services also received awards for bus driver of the year.
