FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Army has identified a soldier killed Thursday in a crash that injured three other service members.

Spc. Luis Herrera, 23, of Marion, N.C., was killed in an accident during routine training at Fort Bragg, the Army said Friday in a news release. Two of the injured soldiers remained in hospital Friday.

Herrera enlisted in the Army in 2017 and twice deployed to Kuwait. He was assigned to Raider Company, 2nd Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team and the 82nd Airborne Division.

“Spc. Herrera was an exceptional Paratrooper and an engaged friend to all those who knew him,” Col. Theodore Kleisner, commander of 1st Brigade Combat Team, said in the news release. “Luis was a soldier’s soldier who always led by example and never missed a chance to leave a positive impact on those around him.”

A memorial for Herrera is planned.
