GREENSBORO, N.C. — It may be a little thing to you, but to someone else, it can make a big difference.

A North Carolina woman experiencing homelessness says she never thought she'd end up in this situation.

The woman who chose to go by the name "Angel" grew up in Charlotte, N.C. and Wilmington, N.Y. For 20 years she worked as a licensed practical nurse.

Now, she moves from place to place. But one thing stays with her.

“I read the Bible all the time," Angel said.

She says several things led to her experiencing homelessness.

“I was in a domestic violent relationship," Angel said. "There were some financial things that weren't settled. That put me at a disadvantage.”

She says there's one little thing she wants others to know about those struggling to get back on their feet— "don't judge, and don't assume."

"Walk in love and walk in peace, and be prepared for whatever comes your way," Angel said.

Her story is one many North Carolinians share.

A 2020 report from The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development shows on any given day over 9,200 people experience homelessness in our state.
