CARRBORO, N.C. — Earlier this month, the Orange County Board of Commissioners and Carrboro Town Council approved the $41.1 million budget for the 203 Project.

It's a civic building that will include a library in a what is now a parking lot right in the heart of Carrboro.

What You Need To Know

  • The 203 Project will house multiple spaces, including a library
  • It will be built on Greensboro Street in an existing parking lot
  • Groundbreaking is expected in May

“At home, we speak three different languages. We expose this to our son," Jocelyn Tsai, a Carrboro resident, said. "I’m excited to go to a space where he can just encounter books in Chinese and books in Spanish. We have them at home, but it is not going to be quite as large of a collection.”

Grateful doesn’t begin to cover her appreciation for the multitude of people who have pushed for a library in Carrboro for more than three decades.

“I was a small child living in St. Louis, Missouri, right? So I’m the one who is benefiting from this hard work," Tsai said. "This has just made me more committed to paying attention to what sort of public projects are going around.”

The groundbreaking is set for May.
