Amid the invasion in Ukraine, the U.S. sent an additional 7,000 troops to Europe. This brings the recent deployment of troops since the crisis began to 14,000.

The U.S. Army is facing challenges recruiting troops.

Now, it's offering $50,000 bonuses to fill some of the those roles.

Capt. Terence Martin, a commander with the U.S. Army, says the pandemic is partially to blame for the Army’s recruiting process.

“The reason it’s so hard to find the recruits right now is because of the current competitive work environment,” he said. “The current process for recruiting, select a job. Qualifications are based on what the current individual has.”

Martin says he can’t talk about the current situation happening in Europe but adds that’s not impacting their recruiting initiative.
