CONCORD, N.C. — A brand new flyover bridge opened at Concord Mills on Wednesday, just in time for the holidays.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation built the new bridge in an attempt to provide better access to the mall.

The bridge will connect Concord Mills Boulevard to Kings Grant Pavilion, the first main entrance to the mall from Interstate 85.

The bridge replaces the original left turn lanes into the mall complex, improving traffic flow on Concord Mills Boulevard.

For drivers leaving the mall, three right turn lanes will be open from the main entrance back to Concord Mills Boulevard, project leaders say. The bridge is only for inbound traffic.

After the initial opening, crews will continue signal work, placement of final pavement markings and overall cleanup.

The entire project is slated to be completed in spring 2022.
