CHARLOTTE, N.C — Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools Superintendent Earnest Winston announced steps the district is taking to address allegations of sexual misconduct at a press conference Friday.

Winston gave an update on the district’s student-driven Title IX task force. He said he expects their report by the end of the month, which he intends to make public.

Winston also announced CMS will add personnel to the Title IX department, whose sole responsibility will be investigating allegations of sexual misconduct in schools.

“We want to ensure that there is consistency across our district. I believe this is the right thing to do to help keep our students and our staff safe and to provide the support that they need in order to accomplish that,” Winston said.

Winston did not have details on how many positions will be added to the CMS Title IX department.
