RALEIGH, N.C. — To Jim Bille, a pumpkin is a blank canvas.

By day he is a computer animator, but in his spare time he likes to work on his carvings.

“When you are building something in the computer, it is all planes. It is all surfaces and you refine it from there, adding more faces," Bille said. "Your initial build is flat surfaces.”

He started the hobby a handful of years ago and now travels the country to show his creations, including in a recent trip to Denver.

Last year, Bille competed on Food Network's "Halloween Wars."

He uses a cronus pumpkin to sculpt, which is heavier and thicker than a normal jack-o'-lantern.

"If you get one person to try it, that’s a good day,” Bille said.
