MOUNT AIRY, N.C. — It's been nearly three months since Creed Willard tested positive for COVID-19.

Creed Willard says his baby brother, Brodey, and mother, Cindy Willard, were all sick with COVID-19 at the same time. For the first time in awhile, everyone seems to be feeling a bit better, so they're packing up and heading out on an adventure.

What You Need To Know

  • Cindy and her two sons, Creed and Brodey, tested positive for COVID-19 nearly three months ago

  • Creed went from taking 30 minute naps before he got sick, to 3 and 4 hour naps to this day

  • Creed is just now starting to get back to his normal hyper self again, says his mother Cindy Willard

On the way to her father's house, Cindy Willard remembered their time as a family while having COVID.

“It was just so hard, begging, 'Mom, please make it go away. Please mama I love you, can you make it stop?' No, I can’t and I tried so hard to prevent them from getting it,” she said.

Many children are experiencing some of the same long-term effects that Creed and Brodey are having: fatigue, lack of appetite, confusion, vomiting and trouble concentrating.

The first few weeks after testing positive were the scariest Cindy Willard had ever experienced as a mother.

“For the first few days, it was just like very mild cold symptoms, and then it was just like everything changed within a couple of hours,” she said.

Luckily, there has been no sign of MIS-C, otherwise known as multi-system inflammatory syndrome in children that has effected 5,217 children since they tested positive for COVID. According to the CDC, 46 of those cases of MIS-C led to death.

“He would rest a little bit longer than he was actually playing. The past two weeks he has been getting back to his old self, now he will still take naps. His naps used to be anywhere from like 30 minutes to an hour, and now it’s like three to four hours,” she said.

Slowly but surely, Cindy Willard is finally seeing her boys get back to being boys and most importantly, brothers.
