RALEIGH, N.C. — People attending the 2021 N.C. State Fair won’t be required to be vaccinated for COVID-19, but officials say it’s strongly encouraged.

Some restrictions will be in place, however, in an effort to limit any possible spread of COVID-19.

"It is the policy of the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services that all unvaccinated employees and visitors are required to wear masks inside N.C. State Fairgrounds buildings. If you are vaccinated, masks are not mandatory, but may be worn at your discretion," a statement on the N.C. State Fair Division's website reads.

Many, including Commissioner of Agriculture Steve Troxler, say they are looking forward to this year's fair following its cancellation in 2020 due to the pandemic. In a video shared on the State Fair's Facebook page, however, Troxler also stresses the importance of getting vaccinated in order to maintain a safe event for all.

As for what you will be allowed to bring into the fairgrounds, fair officials say any size or type of clear bag is acceptable. Wristlets, diaper bags and medical equipment bags will be accepted at the fair even if they are not clear, but they will require additional inspection.

In addition, officials say there will be no concerts inside Dorton Arena when the fair opens next month. The space will be used for vendors to provide a larger venue for farmers and producers.

The N.C. State Fair takes place October 14-24. Ticket information, daily schedules, and more can be found here.
