TODD, N.C. — The Todd General Store was a beloved part of the community for more than 100 years. It was a place that people came to for everything. It was also the only place to get groceries for miles.
Recently, a fire tore through the building, leaving behind rubble that owners are still digging through. They have located ledgers, that although charred, still show names and items bought by customers more than 100 years ago.
The owners say history is not all lost, despite having a lot of work to do to get the store running again. They have hope to be back open in the community soon.
"If you see us out here with like gold pans, we're out mining for things that mean something to us and the history of the store and to the community," says Todd General Store Owner Andrea Connell.
