CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Dozens of people are without a home after a fire destroyed a south Charlotte condominium.

The Charlotte Fire Department says it happened in the 2000 block of Stoney Point Drive, just off of Sharon Lakes Road. When crews arrived, there were large flames and smoke coming from the two-story building. The department tweeted about the incident just before 2 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Crews say a juvenile playing with fire sparked the large flames with damages estimated at $276,000. They say the Red Cross is assisting 30 residents.
