GARNER, N.C. – Liza Torres has always has a passion for baking, but that passion turned into a mission after her mom, Tina, was diagnosed with Celiac Disease.
Celiac disease is a serious auto immune disease triggered by eating gluten.
According to the Celiac Disease Foundation, 1 in every 100 Americans have celiac disease and many are undiagnosed.
Chrome Cupcake Bakery is run out of Liza's family kitchen, but one day she hopes to open up her own storefront.
Her goal is to not only break the stereotype that gluten-free treats can't be delicious but also to break barriers, as someone diagnosed with high-functioning autism.
“I've been told by many people growing up that I would never amount to doing anything," Torres says. "My mom told me when I was younger that you can do anything. All you do is you go out in the world and you do the best that you can.”
