WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A group of municipal employees in the Triad are embracing the spirit of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
They took part in the annual Helping Hands Day in King's memory. Each year, city employees complete community service hours to help local nonprofits in need.
One volunteer, Darrell Turner, picked up trash in honor of the historic day.
"It makes me feel like doing something for your brother or the next man helping out coming together as one," Turner said.
Winston-Salem city offices will be closed Monday, January 18, to observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
