CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Project Downtown, Revamp CLT, and the University Soup Kitchen all came together Saturday afternoon to help those in need.

Volunteers served hot meals, beverages, and vitamins to those staying in tents. James and Amy Boley say they have been homeless for eight months in tent city.

“Anything helps us,” James Boley says. “It’s a struggle out here. You guys know. Life is a struggle.”

The volunteers didn't just feed those in need, they also picked up trash. Farah Malik is the President of the nonprofit Project Downtown. She said since there are only two trash cans in tent city they often are overflowing.

“As you can see there are so many people out here that are homeless,” Malik says. “This gives them a little bit of a cleaner environment to live in, so we are trying to do the best we can.”

The Boley’s say they appreciate any help they can get. The Urban Ministry Center provides food down the street, but they say this is more personal.

“That’s only two meals a day and they’re serving everybody, so sometimes it’s not really a meal that will make you full,” Boley says.

Project Downtown says they plan to hold more events for the homeless as Christmas approaches.
