SUGAR MOUNTAIN, N.C. — Snow guns are blasting at Sugar Mountain Resort. The resort starting blowing snow on Monday as temperatures dropped and continued throughout Tuesday midway through the slope to the peak.

Sugar Mountain Resort Vice President Kim Jochl says it is not cold enough just yet at the bottom to blow snow there, but she expects they will be able to very soon. Jochl says the resort is ready for the season and has made several changes such as adding deck space, expanding the store, and making adjustments to programs to ensure social distancing.

While she says the resort is not open just yet, resort officials are feeling that cool breeze that shows them it's almost time.

"There is definitely a bite in the air, and that's because it is so dry up here right now that the temperature feels colder than it is, but yeah, it's cold. The air definitely bites through you a little bit, which feels terrific," Jochl says.

Jochl says it's unsure when the resort will be opening. That information will be posted on its website and on social media.
