MORGANTON, N.C. – A sinkhole opened up in Morganton near the post office following the heavy rain last week, and many people stopped to look and take pictures.

It's unclear how deep the sinkhole is, but it's several feet wide. If you look close, you can see what appears to be a brick culvert box at the end of the collapse.

Many people near the site say they were worried that more will collapse soon and say that area used to have mailboxes nearby. Morganton resident Cara Holley says she hopes something is done soon.

"I remember coming here when I was little, it was busy, it was probably the cheapest one here and thats when they had the mailboxes pretty much over the top of that​," says Holley.

We have reached out to the City of Morganton about the sinkhole but have not yet heard back.
