GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina's new projected Lieutenant Governor, Mark Robinson is making history.
Robinson defeated House of Representatives member Yvonne Holley and will now become North Carolina's first Black lieutenant governor.
Robinson was born and raised in Greensboro in a family of 10 siblings.
Two years ago he was working in a factory, and Robinson was on track to become a history professor when he made the viral speech at Greensboro's city council meeting in 2018.
As lieutenant governor he plans to stand firm on his principles, while setting aside some of his opinions to work with people.
“As an elected official, I have to invite all voices to the table and that's what I want to do," Robinson says. "That's the kind of leadership I want to display as lieutenant governor.”
He also says there are two things he wants people to know about the results.
“Your talent will make room for you at the table," Robinson says. "It will take you to places, if you allow it, and if you're faithful. And number two is that one person can indeed make a difference. One person can make a difference.”
Robinson will officially become the lieutenant governor-elect once all the ballots are certified on November 24.
