BOONE, N.C. – The F.A.R.M. Cafe in Boone says COVID-19 has been difficult. The nonprofit is known to "feed all regardless of means" and, at times, has some exchanged an hour of work for a meal.
Due to COVID-19, it is unable to do that exchange or have any volunteers at all.
The restaurant has a buffet style menu and asks for donations for meals of $5 or $10, depending on the size of your plate. You can also donate to purchase a token which will be used to feed someone else.
The coronavirus pandemic has not only gotten rid of their volunteers, but also has resulted in donations dwindling while work has increased.
F.A.R.M. is now shutting down on Mondays to pack meals to give to families from a local church, as well as for the homeless shelter. Now, they say they are in need of help. They say all donations go to helping someone eat a meal.
"We distribute to a group home, we distribute to hunger coalition, we distribute to oasis the women's shelter, all those things are still going on," says chef Renee Boughman.
Boughman says they will continue to feed as many as they can but do need some help in the form of donations. The restaurant is open Tuesday through Friday for lunch.
