GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina University will begin their fall semester early and end before Thanksgiving, the university announced Friday.

What You Need To Know

  • East Carolina University will start its Fall semester two weeks early.

  • Exams will conclude by Thanksgiving.

  • Fall and Spring breaks are canceled.

Classes will resume August 10, two weeks earlier than originally scheduled, and exams will end by November 25. There will also be no Fall break.

“These changes will minimize the coming and going en masse of students to and from campus and make it possible to have everything completed by Thanksgiving,” said Interim Chancellor Ron Mitchelson. “By adapting, respecting each other and working together we will weather this storm.”

The university will also be moving toward a block schedule for many classes.

Under this format, students will take the same number of courses, but instead of taking all their classes concurrently, the semester will be divided into two 8-week blocks.

For example, a course load of five classes would include two classes in one block and three in another.

Some courses will continue to be offered in the traditional 15-week format.

For the spring semester, classes will begin January 19, and there will be no spring break. Final exams will end by May 6.
