CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A Charlotte Area Transit System (C.A.T.S.) driver has been charged after Charlotte police say he hit and killed a pedestrian at a bus stop and drove away.
It happened Tuesday at approximately 11:19 a.m.
According to police, the victim was at the bus stop near the 5000 block of North Tryon Street when C.A.T.S. bus 1079, driven by Luis Garcia, approached. The victim attempted to get the bus to stop and was hit by Garcia, who did not stop.
When medical professionals arrived they located the victim, who has been identified as Michael Skelton, 58, deceased in the street.
Garcia has been charged with felony hit and run. He is not suspected of being impaired at the time of the accident.
It is suspected that the victim may have been impaired at the time, but tests have not been released to conclude if that was the case.
