UNION COUNTY, N.C. -- A disabled army veteran launched a digital radio station on Memorial Day.
Darryl Badley Jr. and his wife Theresa had the dream of starting their own radio station two years ago.
After Darryl was furloughed from another radio job in March, the couple took a leap of faith and started Christian Warrior Radio Network LLC.
“I said you know what, I’m going to take this voice and I’m going to use this voice and use the knowledge I have and gained over the past 16 years to launch something that is really beneficial to those who really need it,” Darryl says.
Christian Warrior Radio Network, which broadcasts from their home in Monroe, streams uplifting music and programming about veterans issues and needs, including mental health.
“I want to help those like myself and the millions of others that are out there that really need hope,” Darryl says.
The couple decided their launch day to be on Memorial Day, a day when we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
“We are honoring them and we are also rising from the ashes. We are coming out strong and we are saying: 'we are here, and we are here to serve veterans,'” Theresa says.
Darryl admits their endeavor has had challenges but he said it’s worth it.
“We’ve spent a little bit more money to get this thing running than what we probably could, would’ve spent. I know this a sacrifice that I know I’m willing to make this happen for both myself and the other veterans who are going to be part of this process,” Darryl says.
The Badleys hope one day they can hire veterans around the U.S. as their network continues to grow.
“They’ll be able to help themselves and their families and even cope with what they are dealing with,” Darryl said.
Christian Warrior Radio Network LLC is looking for experts to be part of their shows.
In addition, the business is also asking for support from the public to raise funds for equipment.
