RALEIGH, N.C. – According to a Meredith Poll, more than 76 percent of the respondents supported Gov. Roy Cooper’s extension of the stay-at-home order.

The poll, conducted by Meredith College, was conducted online to 604 registered voters and has a margin of error of plus/minus 4 percent.

More voters (77.8 percent) were in favor of North Carolina schools being closed and 72.2 percent do not want schools to be reopened this school year.

“Despite the claims of groups like ReOpenNC and President Trump about reopening the economy and getting back to normal, most North Carolinians are paying attention to public health professionals and seeing the impact of coronavirus firsthand. As such, they are very cautious about resuming pre-COVID-19 activities,” said David McLennan, director of The Meredith Poll.

More than 63 percent believe that Cooper should determine when the state is reopened rather than President Trump (26.5 percent).

The poll also disclosed that Cooper’s approval rating has risen, while Trump and Sen. Thom Tillis’ approval ratings have fallen.
