NORTH CAROLINA –  COVID-19 is changing the lives of people across the world, including indigenous people in the state.

Tribal leaders in Alamance County say they're dealing with a lack of resources, such as no access to high-speed internet.

They have also been challenged with generating revenue since they had to cancel large events like their annual pow wow.

"We're just really hoping for the best, and we continue to pray for our tribal members and will continue to support them the best ways we know how under the conditions with safety first," said Tony Hayes, Tribal Chairperson, Occaneechi Band of the Saponi Nation. "And also really trying to figure out ways to make sure that Indian communities do get some kind of attention in this. Because I think we're being left behind in several different ways.”
