WATAUGA COUNTY, N.C. -- Watauaga County some saw strong winds and heavy rain fall Sunday that left behind damage. On Bamboo Road, a tree came down and water was in the roadway surrounding the airport.
Firefighters were called to several apartment complexes in that area early Monday morning when the water was around knee deep. Those complexes were covered in mud, and many vehicles had debris lodged under them. Residents said garbage was floating all night.
Down the road, a bridge for the Holiday Hills subdivision also saw some damage. The extreme current tore pieces of the bridge off. Residents say they are worried because this is the only way in and out of their homes.
"When you stop to think that that is our one way out, we live on the lower level of the subdivision beyond that, unless you go knocking on someones door, where are you really going to go," said Boone resident Jason Dehart.
While roads in the county are beginning to dry up, it is important to remember that temperatures Monday night will drop down into the 30s.
