NORTH CAROLINA – The coronavirus outbreak is forcing drug and alcohol treatment centers to change the way they treat patients battling addiction.

Fellowship Hall, an in-patient treatment center for drugs and alcohol in the Triad, says it will remain open even as the coronavirus spreads.

The reason? The center is technically considered a hospital. It has an isolation room ready in case a patient comes in contact with the virus.

For the time being, everyone there is washing their hands frequently and practicing social-distancing guidelines.

The center's clinical director says some people may notice they have a substance abuse problem as the coronavirus makes it harder to get their hands on addictive substances.

Fellowship Hall also canceled visitation and urges people to take part in Alcoholics and Narcotics Anonymous, which are holding meetings online through Zoom.

While the clinic has seen a steady stream of calls, they expect the number to increase as more people realize it is open.
