CHATHAM COUNTY, N.C. — Officials say Larry Ray, 66, shot six people before turning the gun on himself Sunday afternoon.

Sunday afternoon, deputies say they responded to a “shots fired” call on Moncure-Flatwood Road.
Other relatives tell Spectrum News that 66-year-old Larry Ray shot and killed seven people before killing himself. Among those killed are his wife, Jeannie, his mother-in-law, Helen Mason, his adult niece, and nephew Lisa and Paul Sanderford, as well as two family friends, Ellis Manfield and Lisa Mansfield, who were visiting his mother-in-law.
“It’s sad. I couldn’t believe it,” said David Sanderford, a cousin of one of the victims.
Investigators are still working to determine a motive for the shooting.
