CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Following Gov. Roy Cooper's executive order regarding mass gatherings on Saturday, the Diocese of Charlotte issued a statement excusing Catholics from attending Mass and canceled all non-essential activities involving 100 or more people.

The diocese says the decision was made "in recognition of the public health risk posed by the COVID-19 coronavirus." In a letter to the public, Bishop Jugis also urged the faithful to consider the health and well-being of those around you and to follow the public health recommendations issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
