CHARLOTTE, N.C. — While most healthy adults are expected to be OK, the coronavirus has already been significantly deadlier by percentage than the seasonal flu.

The elderly and immunocompromised, like Charlotte resident Wren Bauver, are the people most at risk for getting seriously ill from COVID-19.

“My husband, who is young and super healthy, he is taking drastic measures to make sure that he doesn’t come in contact with somebody who is sick and doesn't bring it home to me,” Bauver said.

She’s in the middle of chemotherapy treatments, diagnosed with triple-negative metastatic breast cancer. Along with taking personal precautions, Bauver is having to avoid people who aren’t doing their part to avoid exposure to coronavirus.

“The average person who's never been in a situation like this doesn't fully comprehend what it's like and how scary it is to have such a weak immune system,” Bauver said.

The CDC is asking people to wash their hands often, avoid close contact with people who are sick, and clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily.
