GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — In anticipation of flooding from Thursday's storms, Gaston County Emergency Management is calling for voluntary evacuations in the towns of Cramerton, Lowell, and McAdenville.

  • Some areas of towns sitting along the South Fork River are in danger of flooding overnight
  • A voluntary evacuation of those areas has been issued
  • Towns include Cramerton, Lowell, and McAdenville

The towns sit along the South Fork River.

Officials say the areas affected in Cramerton include Riverside Drive between 4th, 5th, and 6th Streets and Goat Island Park. In Lowell, Catawba Run Road is affected, and in McAdenville the affected area is Lakeview Drive near Pharr Yarns.

Cramerton and Lowell Police Departments are going door-to-door to alert residents in the affected areas. Officials say the Cramerton Fire Station has also been evacuated to protect equipment and insure availability for calls.

Emergency Management says they expect the South Fork River to rise roughly 16 to 18 feet by 1 a.m. Friday morning. Residents in the area are advised to use extreme caution and remain weather aware.
