HAYWOOD COUNTY, N.C. – Shana Stamey and her family were eagerly awaiting the first litter of puppies from Gypsy, their white German Shepherd.
- A Haywood County family's pet dog gave birth to a green puppy last week
- The puppy's green color is the result of meconium in the birth sack
- The color will fade away, and the puppy will have white fur
Gypsy gave birth to eight puppies Friday, but the fourth one really stood out. The fourth one was born green!
“I started freaking out because it was green,” Stamey says.
Suzanne Cianciulli of the Junaluska Animal Hospital says the green color is harmless.
“The sack that they're in when they're in their mom, there can be meconium in there, and that tends to stain them," Cianciulli says.
As for naming the male puppy, Stamey says it was easy.
"Hulk...it was lime green. He was super mad. So yeah, he became Hulk," Stamey says.
The green color has started to fade away, and Hulk will have white fur in a few weeks.
