  • 19 Charlotte children received free beds thanks to the Sleep in Heavenly Peace Chapter of Indian Trail
  • Families apply to receive the beds by sharing their story with the organization
  • Some of the children benefiting from the group’s mission sleep on pallets, mattresses, or on the floor, accoridng to Indian Trail's SIHP President Daniil Grinchak

The Sleep in Heavenly Peace Chapter of Indian Trail and 21 volunteers delivered the beds to six homes.

Families apply to receive the beds by sharing their story with the organization.

According, Indian Trail’s Sleep in Heavenly Peace President Daniil Grinchak, some of the children benefiting from the group’s mission sleep on pallets, mattresses or on the floor.

"We delivered 19 [beds] today, and we still have way over a 100 on the waiting list,” Grinchak said.

Hearing about the need prompted volunteers with Parsons CPA like Mitchell Woodard to help deliver and assemble beds.

"To hear that in our community, our back door, there is people who don't have beds or sleep on the floor is sad. It's a little disheartening but to be able to provide a bed for a family of four is a great opportunity,” Woodard said.

He also hopes it will brighten the holidays for these families.

"I think that would just bring a morale boost to the family and give the family hope that you can improve your circumstances no matter where you are in life," Woodward said.

For Grinchak, it is important to lend a hand to people in need because the community rallied around his family when they moved to North Carolina from Ukraine.

"When I came here 20 years ago, we had a group of people who helped our family so it's very personal. We're excited so many years down the road, we can give back to the community,” Grinchak said.

Lowe’s and Commercial Works Moving and Storage are some of the companies that help the nonprofit organization deliver beds to kids in need in Mecklenburg and Union counties in North Carolina.

The Indian Trail Chapter also helps families in York County, South Carolina.
