  • The property was sold to Duke Endowment in 2016

Art’s Barbecue and Deli, which had been in business since 1976 and was famous for its breakfast and barbecue, had to close the restaurant after the owners sold the property to Duke Endowment in 2016.

“What I’m going to miss so much is I walk in, and Sarah says ‘morning Bill. Do you want the usual?’ And I always say, ‘yes I do.’ So I don't think there's any other restaurant in Charlotte where you can walk in and they'll say 'morning Bill, you want the usual?’," customer Bill Whitley said.

The restaurant will be missed.

"We're going to have to find another place, but it’s going to be tough to find a place that has so much personality and that hometown feel like Art’s,” customer Keith Anderson said.
