MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. – Many people choose to sponsor an Angel Tree child, but what about an Angel Tree animal?

  • Sea Paws pet store has a tree with homeless dogs and cats that need sponsors
  • You can purchase food, toys, and treats for that pet
  • Donations are due by December 20

A pet store in Morehead City is helping animals in need this holiday season.

Sea Paws set up a “Santa Paws” Angel Tree in order to help the area’s homeless dogs and cats. Shoppers can choose an animal from the tree and sponsor them.

Sponsors can purchase food, toys, and treats for their chosen animal.

“Goal this year is to have every dog have a present, every dog have some food to last them for a little bit, every dog have a nice treat, have a warm place to sleep and a blanket to sleep on if they need it,” Sea Paws co-owner Jeff Vaughn said.

Because of places like Sea Paws, a weight is lifted off the shoulders of shelters this time of year.

“It’s great. We don’t have to worry about food for a while, ‘cause you know we sometimes run out. Then we have to ask for donations and stuff. But this time of year we get a lot of donations and we don’t have to worry about that for a while,” Carteret County Humane Society Assistant Manager Cassandra Tupaj said.

There are 30 animals to choose from.

Donations must be dropped off at Sea Paws by December 20.
