CHARLOTTE, N.C. - As Charlotte continues to grow and change, one local artist is making sure he documents memorable landscapes and pieces of history.

David French has been painting Charlotte's skyline and streetscapes for more than a decade. His focus is on the city's changing skyline and sentimental restaurants and stores around the city.

Some places he's painted are now closed, like the Dairy Queen in Plaza Midwood and the Penguin Drive-In.

French says he hopes his work reminds people of the places that shaped the city and countless lives.

"I dream that it might create a moment in time where they walk down that street that doesn't look anything like that anymore, or might not be a street there, it might be anything, and they can say 'this is where we were, and what once was' and share their life through what I hope is a family heirloom," French says.

French will be showcasing his work at Olde Mecklenburg Brewery all month as part of the annual Christmas Market. The festival begins Friday at 4 p.m. and runs every weekend through December 22.
