GOLDSBORO, N.C. – Todd Anderson, the headmaster of Wayne Country Day School since 2005, resigned on Tuesday after an investigation uncovered sexual misconduct and financial impropriety, according to an email from the school to parents.

  • Anderson identified students for special treatment
  • Anderson took large sums of money for personal benefit
  • Anderson hired a former student with whom he was engaging in a sexual relationship

An outside law firm uncovered the inappropriate conduct, and the school’s Board of Trustees accepted Anderson’s resignation.

“We know how disturbing and disappointing this news is for everyone at Wayne Country Day School,” Board of Trustees chair Amita Shreenath said. “The Board is committed to ensuring that any child, parent, teacher, or other community member feels supported in coming forward with concerns, both today and in future years.”

Anderson allegedly identified certain students for special treatment and engaged in inappropriate physical contact and sexual advances.

Anderson also took large sums of money for personal benefit without the board’s approval, and he mismanaged the school’s international account, according to the board.

The investigation showed that Anderson hired a former high school student to his faculty and then engaged in a sexual relationship.

The board said Anderson also used vulgarity around students and faculty and served alcohol to minors at his home.

Fran Shaw and David Flowers will serve as interim headmasters.
