MONROE N.C. --The memory of a student killed in April's UNC Charlotte shooting will last a long time thanks to a new memorial scholarship.

Reed Parlier's parents made the announcement Thursday at the Central Academy of Technology and Arts in Monroe, Union County. Reed graduated from there in 2017.

Funded by friends and an anonymous donor, the money will allow a student to go to UNC Charlotte with very few expenses.

“The one thing that we want to happen is that Reed is never forgotten and that will do that,” said Reed’s mom, Julie Parlier.

Students at CATA will be given preference for the scholarship which be given every four years.

The deadline to apply is February 15th.
