RALEIGH, N.C. – It’s opening weekend at the North Carolina State Fair, but a cloud looms over the fairgrounds.
- Deputies say three fair employees were arrested and an additional one cited for drug related charged
- Annual fairgoers say there is an increase in overall security at the event
- A fair official also confirmed an employee was injured while working a fun house Friday
The Wake County Sheriff’s Office says three fair employees were arrested and an additional one cited for drug related charges including felony possession of marijuana.

Fairgoers Friday night say spoke about the increase in overall safety and security at the fair. One long-time visitor attending each year since 1967 says the police presence is larger than ever before.
"Especially on the gates when you come in. I mean there were years before magnetometers and before officers actually searched backpacks and packages and purses. You had a presence, but it was much smaller than it is now,” fair attendee Larry Wood said.

Additionally, a fair official confirmed an employee was injured while working a fun house Friday. The extent of his injuries are unknown.
