According to a national WalletHub study, Winston-Salem is one of the worst cities for disabled people.

Analyst, Jill Gonzalez, said the study looked at three main categories including economy, quality of life, and healthcare rankings. She said Winston-Salem ranked low in all of them.

Gonzalez said the city has the third lowest percentage of walkable access to parks and park lands.

“Right now, the median annual earnings for people with disabilities in Winston-Salem is just over $17,000 per year. That's one of the lowest numbers we've seen,” said Gonzalez.

The chair of the Mayor’s Council for Persons with Disabilities said they've been advocating for improvement in the quality of life by promoting the removal of barriers.
