CHARLOTTE N.C. – It was a cry heard around the country. Demonstrators gathered all across the nation to make one thing clear: climate change will not be ignored.

Global warming is prompting discussion worldwide and demonstrations are popping up all over the place. Hundreds of demonstrators from across the state came all the way to Charlotte to make their voices heard.

North Carolina is no stranger to the effects of climate change. Climate research shows hurricanes are becoming more intense by producing heavier rain.

“Hurricanes are just one example the warming atmosphere is causing our oceans to rise we're already seeing rising sea levels. Even if it's just a small amount, we're seeing more days in coastal areas with sunny day flooding. Our higher tides are higher than normal and we're getting more of these coastal flood events even when it's not raining,” Spectrum News Meteorologist Lee Ringer said.

The United Nations Climate Summit is being held on Monday in New York and leaders from all across the globe will be attending. For more information about the strike, click here.
