CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- There was a face-off for Congress in District 9 Wednesday night as the two candidates vying for the hotly contested seat sat down for a debate.

The debate covered everything from healthcare, to immigration, to gun violence and even threats to elections.

Senator Dan Bishop took most of his time answering questions about his voting record.

He also condemned some of the "attack ads" from the Dan McCready campaign that Senator Bishop says are simply false statements.

However, veteran and small business owner Dan McCready took a different approach.

While he judged what he believes is a questionable record for Senator Bishop in Raleigh, he also pointed out why he believes sending someone who has not been a politician before will benefit the residents of District 9.

“The last thing we need up in Washington is more career politicians,” says Democratic candidate Dan McCready, “We need people who have done real things, and seeing through this partisanship and reaching across the aisle to make life better for people in North Carolina.”

“He is a crony capitalist, he built this vaunted business that he built is built on a tax break he sold to rich people as a tax shelter,” says State Senator Dan Bishop. “So repeating that it’s something as a small business is something that people are going to get to see detail about.”

With just a few weeks left before September 10, both Senator Bishop and Dan McCready agree it will be a tough road ahead.  Their biggest concern they said tonight is just reminding people to get out to vote, especially since this election is so abnormal.
