CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A Charlotte native could become the next winner of BET's Sunday Best.

Melvin Crispell III is a ninth season finalist of the gospel-singing competition. He stopped by the Spectrum News studios in Charlotte before heading to tape segments for the finale, airing August 25.

Crispell is the son of the late Melvin Crispell II, a well-known gospel songwriter in the Charlotte area.

Crispell III will face off against Joshua Copeland Sunday and will be judged by Grammy award-winning singer Erica Campbell, and Grammy award-nominated singers Kelly Price and Jonathan McReynolds.
