He was previously the Vice President for College Advancement at Colby College in Maine.

There, he developed a diversity task force for the student body and said he will continue his quest for diversity at Queens University.

He also plans to add more computer and technology courses to the Queens University curriculum so graduates can take advantage of the expanding technology field in Charlotte, like the new Lowes tech center.

"I saw a place with an incredible foundation to build on and then when you combine that foundation with all that's going on in the city of Charlotte," said Lugo. "It's just such an exciting time to be here."

The fall semester at Queens University begins August 26.
